Two issues are moving through City Council that will affect small businesses in our community. Read below a and respond by Monday, December 8 so we can provide more information and advocate as needed!

  1. Fifth District Councilmember Jeffery Young has proposed establishing a 11pm-6am curfew for businesses operating on Girard from College Avenue to 29th Street, and Fairmount from Broad Street to 24th Street; businesses with liquor licenses, drive-throughs, and gas stations would be excepted. We understand this is in response to the proliferation of "nuisance businesses," operating overnight especially. Would this positively or negatively impact your community?

  2. In response to a legal challenge, the city has been forced to eliminate the Business Income and Receipts Tax exemption for those with sales less than $100,000/year - these businesses will be require to file and pay the BIRT for the first time for Tax Year 2025 (due in April 2026). There is legislation moving that may allow these businesses to reclassify and pay a lower rate. Please let us know if you are aware of, affected by, and interested in advocating around this issue!
